Cookie Notice

Effective date: 24 October 2026.

About this notice

This notice explains cookies and similar technologies on gict.co.uk. Cookies are small pieces of information stored by your browser. Other technologies can also store or access information on your device. GICT is operated by Matt Downing, a sole trader.

The public website

The public website provides information about GICT and offers email and telephone links. We have not enabled Google Analytics, advertising pixels or embedded social-media tracking. There is no public account registration, comments service or enquiry form.

Clicking an email or telephone link opens the relevant application on your device. It does not automatically send an email or place a call. Linked external websites and applications have their own privacy arrangements.

Our website is configured for necessary functionality and security. We do not ask visitors to accept optional tracking that is not enabled. If we introduce optional technologies that require consent, we will update this notice and provide a choice before those technologies are used.

Website administration and security

The following first-party technologies relate to authorised website administration. Visiting a public information page does not require signing in. Cookie names containing a hash or user ID have a variable suffix.

  • wordpress_test_cookie: WordPress checks whether the browser accepts cookies when the sign-in page is visited. This is a session cookie.
  • wordpress_sec_… and wordpress_logged_in_…: WordPress authenticates an authorised signed-in user. These expire with the login session; the WordPress default is two days, or fourteen days if “Remember Me” is selected. Signing out invalidates the session.
  • wp-settings-… and wp-settings-time-…: WordPress remembers an administrator’s interface preferences. These can persist for up to one year.
  • wfwaf-authcookie-…: Wordfence checks the permissions of a signed-in user so the firewall can protect restricted areas. Its validity is tied to the authenticated user session.

These technologies are provided through our own domain. They support sign-in, settings and protection of the site, rather than advertising. For further explanation, see the WordPress cookie documentation and Wordfence cookie information.

Privacy preferences

Our Complianz privacy controls can use first-party cookies beginning cmplz_ to remember privacy choices, the notice version and banner status. These are configured to expire within 365 days. A cookie saved during an earlier visit may remain until it expires or you remove it. These cookies record privacy settings; they do not themselves carry out analytics or advertising.

Managing cookies

You can use your browser settings to inspect, remove or block cookies and other stored site data. Blocking sign-in cookies will prevent an administrator from signing in. Removing saved preferences may reset those preferences.

We respect supported Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals through our privacy configuration. These controls do not replace a consent choice where one is required.

Contact and changes
